A Putter
This is the "flat stick" club that you use on putting green and around it. They are available in a range of styles, ranging from mallets to weighted blades. The most important thing is to pick the right length and allow you to hang your arms naturally for a smooth stroke.
A Driver
The club is designed to be shot off a tee and travel the greatest distance. While an adult-sized driver may have 8-11 degrees of loft, beginners with slower swing rates benefit from higher degrees of loft.
A Fairway Wood
This club is also known as a fairway metal, hybrid, or rescue club since it allows you to strike the ball well off the fairway. It is meant to hit the ball off the ground and has a higher loft than a driver.
Irons
A solid metal club with a flat-faced head. Typically, a full iron set is a 4-PW (8 clubs). Golfers can mix and match as many irons and fairway metals as they want in their bags.
A Pitching Wedge (PW)
A Pitching Wedge (PW) is an excellent utility club to have around the green for pitching and chip shots.
Wedges
After you've mastered the pitching wedge, you'll want to upgrade to a Sand Wedge, which has more bounce and loft. Then, if you've mastered it, consider going for a higher-level Lob Wedge (60 degrees).
