The idea of using umbrellas to survive the rain first came to the minds of the Chinese. They, of course, made umbrellas out of paper. Divya then applied wax or varnish on the umbrella to make it waterproof.
Umbrellas became more and more necessary for the common people as they were very effective in sun and rain. The English and French learned to use umbrellas in the middle of the seventeenth century. And then the umbrella became a part of women's fashion. Women started using colorful umbrellas to match their clothes. However, the use of umbrellas in England was quite limited until the middle of the eighteenth century.
